(Formerly known as Fresh Flow Accounting)

If you are an owner of a small company or a startup (micro-business) you are probably frustrated by lack of software accounting tools appropriate for your needs. Don’t get me wrong, there’s tons of great software available, but they are usually suited either for home/personal finances or for “regular” companies that must worry about inventories, payrolls, liabilities, assets, etc.

Do we really need to learn about whole accounting philosophy to manage our one or few-men show?

There is also few solutions on the market that fill this gap, but they are all web applications. I don’t know about you, but, even if I disregard the fact that that another company is keeping and worrying about my financial data, I don’t really see good reason why this kind of application should be web based. Okay, you can access it from any computer, but do you really want to? Really?

The thought to create such desktop application is present in my mind for a while now (years, I would say), but I never managed to start any serious work until recently. Frankly, I wasn’t quite keen to idea of competing with big players. Then again, some of those big players are not really interested in small (micro?) customers such are ourselves, so we were out of luck.

Main ideas

Micro-business owners definitely need an accounting solutions that is affordable, bloat-free, and yet that gives us means to accomplish what we need. And what we need is:

  • Track income and expenses in a human readable form
  • Create customizable invoices in an easy way
  • See who owes you and who do you owe to
  • Maybe track your personal finances at the same place (useful for home-based businesses)
  • Plan budget and future transactions so you can react before it’s too late

What we don’t need is:

  • To be an accountant to use and understand software
  • A bunch of options we’ll never use
  • A yearly maintenance fee
